Lochgelly Band finish eigth at the National Championships

The Lochgelly Band finished 8th at the National Finals held at the Riviera Centre in Torquay. Playing off a draw of fifth the band put in a great performance of the test piece (A Cambrian Suite) which was well received by the appreciative audience. Unfortunately for us the adjudicators did not agree, but an 8th place at the Nationals out of a field of 21 of the best fourth section bands in the country is not a bad result and certainly keeps the bands momentum going. Musical Director Gavin Lindsay said that he was not disappointed with the result and praised the bands attitude and thanked them for their hard work over the previous week. The title was deservedly won by the St Denis band who were the favourites going into the contest. According to the respected 4 bars rest website we were second favourites, but it seems that we suffered the dreaded 4 bars rest kiss of death - thanks guys. At least they thought we played well as these remarks from their website indicate

"5. Lochgelly

I: Confident stuff! - with lots of detail and dynamics. Lots of quality in sop and ensemble. Careful Bass trom! Well handled movement.

II: A little heavy but has style. A few blips and blobs, but the overall picture is nice.

III: Confident playing again and troms lead well. Some classy playing and good direction from the middle. Super ending! Good show.

Star Player: Sop - a wise old head.

and in their post-match analysis

"Below this came some pretty good shows from just about everyone, with Porthaethy Menai Bridge taking 7th place with a solid performance and the unlucky (for us) Lochgelly from Scotland coming home 8th. Theirs was one of the most musically controlled performances of the whole weekend for us, and one of the best directed, but they didn’t quite do anything for the judges – a real pity."
