Preparations continue for Torquay finals

With less than a week to go to the big day the band have been putting the final touches to their preparations for the National Championships in Torquay. Even though we are having a full week of rehearsals they have all been well attended which shows the determination of all the band members to do well. There is a great feeling in the band at the moment similar to that which existed prior to the Scottish. Musical Director Gavin Lindsay remarked that the competition in England will be tough because there are no bad bands at this level but he feels we are playing well and peaking at the right time. The test piece "Cambrian Suite" looks deceptively easy at first sight but there are plenty of hidden nuances in the music waiting to catch out the unwary. The band leave for the Championships immediately after the rehearsal on Thursday night and face a long bus journey overnight to reach Torquay on Friday morning. Another rehearsal on the Friday night in Torquay will be followed by a final top and tail on Saturday morning, time permitting, before taking the stage at the Riviera Centre. Band President Neil McCormack says he is looking forward to the weekend very much especially as he has heard that the hotel has a swimming pool. Let's keep up the good work and good luck to everyone.
