Alan Fernie Returns to Lochgelly
The Lochgelly band are pleased to announce that they have secured the services of Alan Fernie to direct the band at the forthcoming Scottish Championships. Alan has previously worked with the band in 2004 when he directed us to a 2nd section win at the Fife Open contest on Goff Richards “Hollywood
Alan Fernie started out in brass bands at a young age when he joined Newtongrange Silver band on trombone. His talent took him to the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama where he studied trombone and had the opportunity to play for many of Scotlands leading orchestras. Today Alan is best known as probably the finest arranger of brass band music in the UK. It is virtually impossible to find a band anywhere in the UK that has not played at least one of his many fine arrangements. Alan continues to write new material for brass bands and his composition “Anglian Dances
” has been chosen as the 4th section test piece for this years area Championships. Alan also adjudicates and he will be in the box at the Scottish Championships judging the 4th section on his own composition. Alan is in great demand as a conductor and he has achieved notable success recently with the Jedforest Instrumental Band. Recognised as one of the best brass band tutors in Scotland, Alan also works with the Loanhead Brass Roots programme and recently led then to a Gold award and second place overall in the development section at the Scottish Youth Brass Band Championships.
Alan is very enthusiastic about this opportunity to conduct Lochgelly band and is looking forward to achieving some success with a band that he describes as "going places".
