Scottish Challenge Shield Contest

After a 15 year gap the Lochgelly Band took part in their first contest as a 1st section band at the Scottish Challenge Shield contest held in the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow. The band played the testpiece “Ballet For Band” by Josef Horowitz and although only five bands took part we were very pleased to finish fourth and claim another scalp in the 1st section. Prior to the contest the band had been widely tipped to finish last due to their inexperience at this level. However MD Jim Chamberlain in his last contest with the band directed a great performance from the band and proved that we have nothing to fear at this level. The contest was won by the Dalmellington Band from Ayrshire, continuing their current run of good form. We now look forward to a bit of a break over Christmas after what has been a very busy year for the band. When we come back in the new year we will have a new MD and a new test piece to work up for the Scottish Championships in March.
