Lochgelly Compete at National Finals
The Lochgelly band took part in the national Finals held in the Harrogate International Centre on 24th September. Such has been our success in recent years that this was our third trip to the Nationals in the last four years although our first visit to this venue. The test piece chosen for the 2nd section was Frank Wrights arrangement of “Belmont Variations”. Unfortunately the band had a bad day at the office and suffered what must rank as one of our worst contest performances of recent times. The adjudicators, Philip McCann and Steve Sykes agreed and placed the band a lowly 15th out of 16. One can argue that this still makes us the 15th best band in the country, but the pain of a bad performance still hurts just as bad. The contest was won by the St Keverne band ahead of Wire Brass and Woodfalls Concert Brass in second and third place respectively. Undeterred by that result the band then embarked on doing what we do best – having a good time. All in all a very enjoyable Nationals trip, except for the result. The band have to pick themselves up from this one quickly because as of 1st November we are officially a 1st section band and will be competing in what is probably the hardest section in Scottish banding at present.
