Band Competes at Northern Open

The Lochgelly band gained a creditable 3rd place at the Northern Counties Open contest held in the Reid Hall in Forfar on Saturday 7th May.

The contest was won by Granite City Brass, continuing their fine form by storming to victory in their local Association event. Championship section Bathgate showed improving form under new MD Matthew Chin to claim second spot just ahead the Lochgelly band under the baton of James Chamberlain.

The band were happy to maintain their recent run of good results and were more than happy to take the scalp of established first section band Arbroath Instrumental. The contest itself was marred by a series of withdrawals which reduced the field to just seven bands. This was unfortunate as this contest is always well run and the organisers are deserving of some better support from the wider brass band community in Scotland. The Lochgelly band have recently returned to this contest after a break of several years however it is a contest that we would like to continue to support in future.
