Lochgelly Band win fourth section Scottish Championship

At Motherwell Civic Centre on Saturday 9th March 2002 the Lochgelly Band were confirmed as the best fourth section band in the country. Adjudicator Markus Bach judged Lochgellys performance of the Gordon Jacob test piece "Suite in B flat" to be the best and awarded the band 184 points, 3 ahead of the second placed band. Conductor Gavin Lindsay said he was delighted by his debut success with the band and that the band deserved their success due to the large amount of work they had put in. The result was greeted with wild exuberance in the hall by a band which had strived so hard to bounce immediately back to the third section from an undeserved spell in the fourth. Bass player John Martin said that he had been waiting 12 years for the band to taste success at the Scottish and was looking forward to competing at the National finals in Torquay. Band treasurer and Bb bass player Neil McCormack said that he was going to let the diet have a rest because there was some serious partying to do back at the band hall. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to our result.
