Lochgelly Band win at the National Mineworkers Championship

Lochgelly Band bade a fond farewell to the fourth section at the National Mineworkers Championship contest held in the Winter Gardens in Blackpool. Just for good measure we also signed off by winning the contest to become the fourth section Mineworkers Champions for 2002. Drawn off band number 11 we were the last band on stage and we felt that this could give us an edge as our performance would be fresh in the adjudicators mind. So it seemed, as our performance of Henry Geehls' "Sinfonietta Pastorale" drew great praise from adjudicator Stephen Tighe as he addressed the audience at the prize presentation. He reserved special praise for the second movement, "Sabbath Calm", describing it as very moving. Unfortunately Musical Director Gavin Lindsay had to return to Glasgow after we had played so he missed the celebrations. Hope his hearing returns to normal after the phone call we gave him!
