A GREAT SCOTTISH RESULT FOR LOCHGELLY

The Lochgelly band under the direction of Paul Drury were placed third in the 1st section of the Scottish Championships held in Glenrothes recently. The result represents the highest placing the band has acheived in Scottish banding for nearly 20 years. Playing the testpiece "James Cook - Circumnavigator" the band were a mere two points away from acheiving their long term aim of a return to the Championship section. The result also ensures the bands participation in the 1st section for at least the next two years, unless of course we get promoted next year. At the announcement of the results there was a huge cheer from the Lochgelly contingent in marked contrast to the rather muted celebrations of the top two bands as their names were read out. The contest was won by Bo'ness & Carriden band who pipped pre-contest favourites Clackmannan District Brass.

The band are now ranked as the top band in the 1st section and everyone will be looking to take our scalp whenever we contest. That merely means that we will have to work harder to maintain our current position. Traditionally neither Boness nor Clackmannan attend many contests so we are also in with an outside chance at the band of the year title, although we do have a gap of six points to make up.

Thats also two contests and two trophies for the band MD paul Drury and fully justifies the faith we have in his ability to lead us on to greater things. It proved to be a successful weekend for Paul on all fronts as his "second" band Kirkintilloch finished second in the Championship section and qualified for the National Finals at the Royal Albert Hall. As well as that his fiances band Unison Kinneil finished fifth in the top section to guarantee their continued presence at the top table of Scottish banding.

For Lochgelly, we now have a busy year ahead. Our final placing ensures us an invite to the Scottish Challenge Shield contest at the end of November. There is also the Fife contest at the start of October and the band are hopeful of an invitation to the Pontins contest at the end of October.

The band would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for such a great result. We did place huge demands on all of your time in the final week before the Scottish and we are appreciative of the sacrifices made by everyone to attend rehearsals. There is no doubt that this hard work paid off for us on stage. Once again, thank you all.
